Last Saturday I ventured to The Salon in the Shelbourne Hotel with three friends for a day of pampering which was well overdue! I received a voucher for the Hollywood Legends package in August for my birthday and it was burning a hole in my pocket. The Hollywood Legends package consists of four, you guessed it, Hollywood Legends; Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Onassis, Grace Kelly, and Brigitte Bardot. The idea behind it is simple, you chose your favourite legend and you will have your hair styled like theirs, have your nails painted in a colour which they wore and have a tipple that they used to drink!
I had never been to The Salon at the Shelbourne before and, it was exactly as I thought it would be. It has high ceilings, lots of floral arrangements, white illuminated hair stations; it is all so glam!
Prior to arriving, I was busy googling trying to figure out what hairstyle I would go for. Images of up-styles and extremely back-combed hair were flooding my screen and I really didn’t know which I was going to choose as none of them are really “me”. When I got to the salon I was reassured I could have my hair styled whatever way I preferred which was a relief so I settled on a bouncy blow-dry which suited my hair. As we were celebrating an engagement, we all chose a glass of champagne as our drink of choice, which was served in a champagne saucer which was a nice touch.
After our hair was fluffed, and our nails were polished, we went for lunch in the hotel. The Shelbourne is my favourite hotel in Dublin and spending the afternoon in the Salon and then dining for lunch was such a treat. If you are struggling to think of a gift idea for your Mom or a friend, the Hollywood Legend’s package (€60) is such a lovely idea and makes for a gorgeous day out. The voucher is beautifully presented in crepe paper in a Shelbourne gift bag so you don’t need to worry about wrapping paper or buying gift bags.
On the day, I decided to channel my inner Jackie O’ and I wore a tweed skirt, Chanel pearls and a black polo neck body suit. I teamed the skirt with black tights and “to the knee” boots. I purchased these boots in Massimo Dutti last year and they are a mix of leather and suede, they have a high block heel and are seriously comfy. I wore a long black coat (Zara) and placed a fur (faux) collar with it. I purchased the black fur collar from Posche Malahide and it is a great accessory to dress up any black coat or outfit. It is very easy to apply and just as easy to remove. The skirt I wore (below) is from Topshop (old stock), however I have included at the end of this post where you can find other tweed skirts. Tweed is a fabric that will stand the test of time, so if you are trying to create that capsule wardrobe, tweed is definately a go to fabric.
I am loving knee length skirts recently. Paired with tights, boots and a body suit, they are super comfy and look very chic. They are the perfect outfit for a lunch or a brunch date, they suit all shapes and sizes and can worn so easily.
I recently purchased a knee length skirt in H&M (above) for €22. When I tried it on in the changing room I knew immediately it would be a good buy. The size ten fit perfectly and was a nice length to wear casually. There is nothing worse when you are walking around town in a skirt which constantly has to be pulled down! It is also a strong fabric so will not blow everywhere in the wind! It’s a win win for me. It also has gold zip detailing down the back which I was delighted with as I wear gold jewellery on a day to day basis. The zip detailing is meant to be worn at the back however I wore it to the front and the skirt kept it’s shape. I have included below where you can find some skirts to wear casually.
I hope you enjoyed this post and thanks for stopping by.
